Legal Investigations
Some of the legal investigative services available are: surveillance, witness locates, background investigations, scene investigations, jury pool backgrounds, recorded statements, process service, video depositions, and interviews.
The first step of any investigation is the preliminary inquiry in which all the pertinent data is collected. Information about key persons in the investigation is also gathered from database reports. With this preliminary information the investigative team will devise an investigative plan that will outline specific tasks.
Three of the most common used techniques in any investigation are surveillance, interviews, and information sources.
Surveillance
Surveillance is usually conducted covertly for the purpose of obtaining information for criminal and civil investigations, insurance fraud, employee theft, infidelity investigations, as well as other types of investigations. Surveillance is extremely useful for evaluating your subject, documenting their daily activities, or whatever other fact you are looking to obtain. Our equipment ranges from standard digital video cameras, to miniature body worn cameras that are hidden inside everyday items. This allows us to gather evidence even in indoor and previously problematic situations. We also utilize advanced systems such as night vision cameras and zoom lenses for documenting activity under the cover of darkness or from a distance.
Throughout the surveillance, we videotape every time there is activity. Nothing provides better documentation than video surveillance. A picture tells a thousand words but video surveillance provides you with the “real picture” of the person’s activities. If surveillance is necessary we perform these observations under the agreed upon time and location parameters. Please understand, we can not promise activity on behalf of the subject.
Interviews
Interviews are often done with the subject's knowledge of the circumstances, but can also be done without the subject knowing that information is being gathered for a specific reason.
Information Sources
Information sources come in several different varieties ranging from public and courthouse documents to neighborhood, law enforcement, and confidential sources.
After all the information is gathered and sorted, the investigator will transfer the information into a written report along with all supporting evidence. Since we are a licensed investigative agency and use only licensed investigators, your videotape and written report are legal court documents.

Personal Injury
We investigate all types of personal injury litigation including auto accidents, slips and falls, dog bites, as well as others. Our investigators can obtain digital photographs or videotape of accident scenes, injuries, crime scenes, property damage, and roadways.
Background Investigations
It is always advantageous to know as much as possible about victims, witnesses and other involved parties. Background investigations are often used in pre and post litigation, business relations, pre-marital investigations, criminal defense, civil litigation, and due diligence.
We will conduct an in-depth history of a subject’s past through courthouse research or online databases. This investigation can include criminal background, hidden assets, employment, police records, civil history, judgments, liens or bankruptcies, driving records, nationwide database searches, education, military service, and professional and character references.
Recorded Statements
Comprehensive recorded interviews taken with the subject in efforts to cover and document the subject’s personal history, daily activities, and all circumstances and issues relevant to the case.
Statewide Criminal Background Check
Identify all corresponding felony and misdemeanor records associated with a subject for a seven-year period. More in-depth searches are also available.
Civil Records Search
We search courthouse databases for all civil records identifying all corresponding litigation activities regarding a subject as either plaintiff or defendant. Information released by the courthouse may vary by county.
Fraud
Investigative Resource Group offers flexible services designed to expose fraud in order to reduce liability and bring savings to your bottom line.
Whether it is insurance fraud, worker’s compensation claims, bodily injury, medical malpractice or employee theft, there is no better way to document the facts than irrefutable video evidence. Our investigators specialize in worker’s compensation, liability, and medical malpractice claims. In these cases, surveillance is usually conducted for trial evidence and documentation purposes. We will provide you with the facts to help you make informed and confident decisions.
Accident Investigation
We provide accident scene photos and a diagram. Other services available at the scene are witness canvas and statements.
Activity Checks
We make discreet inquiries into an individual’s present level of physical capabilities, activities, hobbies, and possible employment status. We can also confirm an individual’s current living or deceased status.
Witness Locates
Witnesses are sometimes hard to locate for statements or interviews. This service provides current address information and identifiers that allow a higher probability of obtaining more relevant information in locating an individual.
Asset Checks
Database searches of an individual’s personal property ownership, motor vehicles, marine vessels and aircraft registrations, corporation records, bankruptcies, judgments, liens, and UCC filings.
Due Diligence
Database and public record searches conducted to ascertain the integrity of a subject or business.
Infidelity Investigations
We have investigators that specialize in infidelity cases. Through discreet surveillance and undercover operations, our investigators assist you in determining if infidelity is being committed. We will document their activities, places visited, and meetings.
Child Custody and Visitation Investigations
Child custody and visitation is usually the most crucial issue in a divorce or custody dispute. In determining the custody of a minor, the court is guided by one standard,
“What is in the best interest of the child”. Though it is usually important that each parent or known guardian remain a strong part of a child’s life, it is equally important that the child not be in an unhealthy environment. If you have reason to believe it is not in the best interest of the child to be in the custody or visitation of the other guardian, we can help you in your efforts by documenting the evidence.
We can observe the subject during their scheduled visitation to determine if unlawful or improper activity is occurring. We can also observe the subject at other times to determine activities, lifestyle, living conditions and associates. A background check may also be conducted on the subject. In addition, we can testify on the findings in court.
Process Service
We provide prompt cost-effective service of process throughout Minnesota. We offer rush and special service, immediate status updates, and prompt return of service.
